This book pays tribute to one of the most formidable figures in the history of baseball. There has never been anyone else like The Babe. While it is true that he forever changed the way the game was played-inventing the homerun as a offensive weapon-he had other traits that caused him to stand out from the rest. What made him unique and endearing was the way these things were wrapped up in one boyish, funloving package.
Ruth defined an American style of folk hero. In addition to superior prowess at this sport, other qualities set the Babe apart- appetites that rivaled his gigantic home runs, an intense and abiding love of children, and a thoroughly irrepressible sense of fun.
