I first read Sylvia Porter's Money Book when I was in high school because we used it as a text book for a life skills class. I liked it so much I went out and bought the updated version, which is this book, the New Money Book for the 80's. It is such a basic and practical book for all aspects of your financial life, such as explaining checking accounts, budgets, how to shop for a good price, buying groceries, furnishing your home, buying a car, furnishing your wardrobe, buying jewelry, financing college, buying a home, vacations, health care costs, retirement, just about anything you can think of. Reading it as a young adult, I was grateful for the "beginners" approach to all things money and thoroughly used the book for decades.
