John Masters who was born in Calcutta, India, in 1914, he was educated in England and returne to India in 1934 to serve with the Prince of Wales Gurkha Riffles; late he fought in Burma and Manddalay, retiring from the army in 1948 and distinquished by both the DSO and the OBE. He wote both novels and stories about his time & experiences in India, even though he chose to live in New Mexico. he has a long list of credits, including his highly acclaimed trilogy of The Great War. The daily Telegrap states Master's work are, "Brilliant... packed with pace and detail... a splendid storyteller and a master at describing battles & campaigns" as one might expect!
