It took about 400 pages, but the book finally got me hooked.

Man oh man, this guy needed to work on his pacing (and his dialogue) a bit more. Only a few scenes piqued my interest in the first few hundred pages, and they weren't enough on their own to keep me going. I haven't read prose this turgid since I was a newspaper editor. The book finally secured my interest less than forty pages before it ended.
