Perdita Wentworth is not just beautiful, but intelligent and willful. She's instantly affronted when she overhears the Earl of Rushmore complain about harpies and schoolgirls at a London party. So of course she takes him to hand and the Earl is smitten.
The Earl realizes that the only way he could be the recipient of Perdita's heart is to gain he as an ally, then a friend and then his heart. Which he accomplishes, with the help of his ward Louise, Perdita's sister Amy and their aunty Trixie.
This is a charming story (actually 2 love stories, as Louise also finds a love), that shows the respectful and honorable sides of courtship, trust and love. If you loved Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, you'll love this book.
