A compilation of travel stories by women, subtitled "True Stories of Life on the Road."

The editor of the book states that women travel differently than men and for different reasons. After reading this collection, "The Best of Outside" and "The Best American Travel Writing", I would have to agree. The tone is different in these stories. The travelers want to make more of a connection with the different cultures than to zip through at a fast pace. The women travel by foot through the desert to a Californian mission, by van through the Gobi Desert, or by car through the US with baby and husband in tow.

Another way we travel differently is in the sheer fact that we ARE women--we always have to be cautious; for every 100 truly great people we meet, there is that one unsavory character. How does a women balance being carefree with being hesistant? She went for the travel and life experiences; is she just being too scared? The last unit explores this issue, and I must say that the stories had my heart in my throat.

There are 50 great adventures that span the globe, women's ages, and travel experience. A rich read.
