I have not yet seen the book but Julian Lucas offers a favorable review in Harper's Monthly, January 2020. Page 83, 'New Books.' Ms. Conde has chops as a novelist and historian. "The book is more a travelogue than gastronomic treatise,' opines Mr. Lucas, as she shares with readers the circumstances in which she found the meals as she traveled extensively, meeting many people.
