The Illusionists by Rosie Thomas is a dark story of magic, intrigue, and ambition set in 1800s London. It has ups and downs, but not a major conclusion. It seems to simmer along. The characters move towards their goals; they encounter hardships and help. Successes and failures. Yet, a climax never develops. I waited for something more that never really came.
