A disappointing read. Jance put together a really great plot but the characters are way too superficial. I've read all of the Jance books (including the first in her Ali series) and adore them all except the Ali series. Unlike Jance's other characters, Ali is one dimensional and boring. In the Ali series Jance violates one of the key rules of fiction writing, that is--the character, after facing adversity, is changed from what she was before the event. And lets face it Ali was facing some horrific events!

Sorry to be so negative. Will continue to read Jance's novels and hope her Ali series gets more depth of character.
