This book was a quick read and heart breaking as well. The true story of Patricia Van Tighem who was attacked by a grizzly bear on a hike with her husband in 1983. Although she survived, she was left with the left side of her face ripped out. She goes on for the next twenty plus years trying to live as close to a normal life as possible, continuing education, having babies, staying married etc. However, the attack emotionally destroys her and she spends years in and out of mental institutions where she becomes known as a difficult patient, and many physicians and nurses give up on her. Her family never does. Heart wrenching. Although, she gets a grip on her life to actually write this book, about five years later, she has had enough of this life emotionally and physically and commits suicide. This book does not include that because it is written before the incident. My heart wants to reach out to her so much. I find myself wondering if her doctors and nurses have read her book and find themselves in her pages.
