If you want to read an excellent book this is it. Susannah Cibboer was born in the early 18th century and given a good education. HER father forced her into marrying that lowdown , no-good rat, Theo Cibber. HE took all her money, sold her clothes, at gunpoint forced her into prostitution. All this broke Susannah's spirit and she ran away from this evil man and she spent the rest of her wife with a very rich man William Sloper. William was gentle and kind to her. Susannah was a well known actress and English singer. Susannah was redeemed by singing Handel's Messiah. This was scandalous behavior but there was no divorce and I had great pity for Susannah, a much more than abused, rejected, beaten past beaten by her totally evil husband. This is quite a story.I could not put down this book until I finished it. This sounds like a novel but is a true story. I would rate this book 10+++++..
