This is an unusual book from Douglas Reeman. It is written in almost a languid tale and goes along slowly to its conclusion. In this book, he stills writes about the naval service, but the officers and men, while in the same Special Service force, are either laying mines off the enemy coast, or disarming mines that the Germans have either dropped from planes or sowed by sea.
There are actually several main characters in this story and Reeman jumps back and forth between them. Much of the story is spent on the love life of several of the characters and this does detract from the naval action.
Still, this is a good story about Britain at war that we so seldom see. I remember a TV series about a group of British soldiers who disarmed bombs, I think it was called X-B or something like that. I really enjoyed that series and this book reminded me of it.
