This is a very interesting story of how two performers brought the best out in each other and became so famous together that they epitomized the musical and dance genre. They appeared in movies for 10 years together, but history remembers their actions together, rather than apart. The last chapter, (when people in the know gave insights into Fred and Ginger's careers), was a great addition to the book. Overall score = 4.5 stars.
FRED ASTAIRE --
Surprisingly, Fred was from a blue-collar Omaha, Nebraska home life. His beautiful, seemingly effortless dance routines were the results of his tireless work ethic and insistence on perfection. He started on the stage, moved to the cinema, and performed on television near the end of his career.
Fred was well-known as a stage performer with his sister Adele long before they transferred to film. This book explains how Fred learned the international fashion sense that he was noted for -- when Fred really came from Nebraska. It also explains how Fred exceeded the skill of his sister, and she eventually retired and married. Fred married fairly late in life, had two children before his wife died.

Ginger started out as a Midwestern-oriented stage and cinema star with great singing and acting skills. Over the years, she and Fred melded into a powerful dancing and comedy pair. As the musical genre became more elaborate (with Ira and George Gershwin providing beautiful music), it became harder to make a profit. Ginger was in films for 30 years and had 5 marriages. She bought a large farm in Oregon and eventually died there.
