This is one of the few times that I've actually liked the second book more than the first. I rated it 3.5 stars.

I agree that you must read the first book, "Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between," if you ever hope to understand what is happening in this book. I'm really glad I had this book to start right after finishing book one.

The Renfield Syndrome starts with a future that main character Rhiannon could never have imagined. That combined with all of the new paranormal entities that she has to deal with leads the reader on a see-saw ride.

Just one complaint. If only the author would stop using the term "shit kickers." Ugh! And it felt to me like it was overused. So much that it was mildly distracting, IMO. Just once I'd like to see the word "boots" since I really don't need my attention drawn to Rhiannon's footwear for any reason whatsoever.

Other then that, I really liked how the author defines and deepens Rhiannon's character through a variety of natural and supernatural actions. Interesting and useful in moving the story forward.

Hang on for some bloody action, steamy sex, and more dark musings from Rhiannon. And you thought the first book was a doozy!
