The story of Ellie picks up in 1942, 8 years after book #2 ended. In the intervening years she has gotten married, become widowed, adopted a son and has a stepson. She also embarked on a career as an artist. She is still living in New York. But then her 16 year old stepson runs away from school and runs to Hollywood to pursue a career as an actor. Ellie originally goes out after him to bring him home but ends up staying and building a new life for herself in California. This book takes place in 1942 and 1943 Hollywood. It is the story of Ellie and the people in her life, but we see WWII and Pearl Harbor, Japanese internment in California, and the history of the movie studios. This book was a nice conclusion to this trilogy.
