This novel is about what happens when the S'rene descend upon Earth to save us from destroying ourselves. All violence is prevented and the planet is turned into a peaceful, productive paradise by S'rene technology. All who come in direct contact with S'rene sense only benign intent and do not fear, except for a few, but they are powerless.

Ordinarily a novel like this would deteriorate into a snoozefest, but this author is quite good with characters and incidents and that held my interest. That -- and wondering when, if ever, he would deal with some of the questions I thought of from the beginning. He does, sort of, eventually.

To say more would be spoilers, so I will just say it was an interesting read that held my attention despite my misgivings about the hippy dippy sunshine paradise the earthers get sold on, and the obligatory stereotype of a nasty pervert industrialist who is one of the central characters. But I was left at the end with unanswered questions.
