I really can not recommend this book. It is not a first in a series, and not really a stand alone book, although I think the stand alone was the intent. In the middle of the book other characters show up from previous books. It might mean more if you read the other books.

I started to get bored as more characters were added to the plot, and as they got deeper into the whole intrigue. There was a great deal of politics, and lost treasures that didn't interest me. I found the ending enjoyable and it was a good reward for finishing the books. I was tempted to quit at about page 200 ish. I am glad I proceeded to the end.

I do recommend reading City of Jasmine first, as it would be a good background to this book, and the whole mystery of the treasure.
