This was a very different kind of murder mystery for me. The director of the Birmingham Zoo loves his job, but hates his home life. The novel focuses on Director George Surridge as he is pulled into being an accessory to a murder and then his conscience begins to eat at him until he is a nervous wreck and his life begins to fall apart. The Venom in the title is both the murder method and the adjective that best describes what is eating into Surridge conscience at each step of the police investigation. At the end he is a broken man, but finally at peace with himself.
