I liked this book and became invested in how it ended, but I did not care for how the author would in one paragraph take the idea of this book very seriously, then in the next try to make cute comparisons. She should have committed herself one way or the other. The author did her research and would have the 'whyte' heroin experiencing torture that African slaves would have experienced, then make jokes about the 'blak' skateboarders. Also, I'm not sure how interested a younger reader would be in the book since the viewpoint is from a woman in probably her 30's or 40's. I think the brilliant idea was somewhat wasted in this book. But I would still recommend it because it is thought provoking.
