Artist Liza Cassidy learns her twin sister, Laurel, is dying of a brain tumor. After accepting her fate, Laurel decides to spend the rest of her time on her termsand away from her family. Five years later, Liza is notified of her sister's death. It's only after the death of their mother, though, that Liza learns that Laurel gave birth shortly before her death. This is a breathtaking discovery for Liza, who's been dreaming about a redheaded boy.

Determined to find out if the boy in her dreams is her nephew, Liza heads to Laurel's last residence. Laurel did indeed leave behind a child named Tommy. What confuses her is that Tommy's father, Sheriff Jack McCall, doesn't seem to know that Laurel has died. Liza is determined to unravel the tangled web and get to know her nephewit's apparent he is a very sick little boy.
