Leonardo da Vinci lived at the beginning of the Renaissance, when scientific knowledge took on new life with discoveries such as Gilileos proof in 1609 of the form of the solar system and Sir Isaac Newton's mathematical demonstration of an ordered universe.

Da Vinci, convinced that mathematics could provide scientific proofs and explations, made numerous observations and experiments that contributed enormously to this spurt of understanding.

And as an artist, he was able to illustrate the various concepts of which he dreamed.

This pamphlet highlights da Vinci's interest in "flying machines" that would enable men -- like birds -- to soar from the earth and travel through the air, and other interests ranging from spring-driven cars to clock mechanisms to improvements on Gutenburg's initial printing press.

Da Vinci fans will get an in-depth look at this Renaissance Man, and a deeper understanding of the great lengths his intellectual curiosity enabled him to travel.
