This is a translation designed for people who do not have English as their mother tongue (also known as English Second Language or ESL), so the text eliminates idioms as much as possible. This is also helpful for children. It is easier to read aloud from because that was one of its purposes, to be a public text. Some printings include line illustrations of some of the stories.
