Nicholas Braden and Morgan Davis are identical twins, separated at birth. Because one is wanted for murder and the other one is a Texas Ranger, their lives intersect. Neither knows of the others existence.

Ranger Morgan Davis has already had 2 attempts on his life (by bounty hunters) because he is so identical to this man, Nicholas Braden. So, he sets out to find the accused murderer all the way to Wyoming.

This is a rather common plot line but Potter turns it on its head with an amazing array of character studies. As a newborn, Morgan Davis was found in the cellar of a burning cabin, everyone else was dead. He was raised with Texas Rangers and he saw the world in black or white, good or bad.

Nicholas was raised with a band of Gypsy-like nomads who had a travelling Medicine Show. Hes relaxed and loves life; he has a great sense of humor. When accused of murdering an unarmed young son (of the towns cattle baron), Nicholas escapes to Wyoming, starting a ranch, along with his sister Lorilee.

Morgan finds Nicholas and Lorilee in Wyoming and immediately heads them back to Texas. Thus begins a fascinating study of the 3 characters. Lori and Nicholas are constantly probing to find Morgans weaknesses and find none! Lori eventually figures out that she is attracted to Morgan and the feeling is mutual.

This is a powerful story and it makes fascinating turns all the way to the epilogue. This story is well worth the time to read the 430+ pages. 5 stars.
