Extremely well researched and written is this historical fiction that covers the tragic upheaval in Chile after the Pincohet coup, the little know story of the Finnish children shipped to Sweden for protection during WW II as well as the story of a French Jewish family who fled France for safety in Peru. While these begin as separate tales, they merge in Sweden where Octavio and Salome received political asylum. This may seem complex, but it doesn't read that way. She keeps you totally engaged with each character.
I could not put it down. I wanted to know what was happening with each one of them and I was captured by the richness and depth of these characters. Totally loved this book.
