Maurice Procter was a popular mystery author in the 1960s. This is one of his Green Door Mysterys. A smiling gypsy leaves a trail of crime and death through Granchester. His guilt seems certain, but so do his alibis. Serg. Devery and his policewoman partner have to break the case. Already their man had escaped and they are in deep trouble if he escapes again. An interesting novel from a capable author.
