This is a very New York City kind of book, about a social milieu in which people care very much whether or not their neighbors see them as with-the-times.

It's written in wry snippets comprised of very short sentences, where plot is minimal and characters are the sum of their hobbies and complaints.

Extremely stylish, but not everyone's cup of kombucha.
