Madeline Hunter does not write a bad book. If you like her books, you will like this one. For my part, I'm not a huge regency historical fan anymore -- too much sameness has set in -- and so I was hoping there would be more about the mystery than the affair. On that level I found it a disappointment, and found myself skimming sex scenes to find out more about the case. I would warn that the sex in this is hardly 50 Shades of Anything, but it is slightly more adventurous and less romantic than regencies were even 10 or 15 years ago. Not offensive, just more to current tastes, I suppose. I gave it four stars only because I did not find the mystery adequately dealt with.
