Pete Hautman has terrific characters who remind me of Elmore Leonard's writing. In this book, described as "A frighteningly funny new crime novel," 73-year-old Axel Speeter is ready to settle down. He owns a taco concession at the Minnesota State Fair, is involved with the taco stand manager and her daughter, and he's living at the Motel 6 with $250,000 in coffee cans. If only the daughter hadn't met James Dean.
