I enjoyed the first 3/4 of the book a lot. I found the descriptions of Louisa's family life, and of her experiences in the Civil War hospital extremely interesting. There was a real sense of time and place. But toward the end, it seemed to get bogged down and become more of a romance novel. That's when it lost me (I'm just not much on romance I guess). It seemed to get far too melodramatic for my taste, like watching one of those 40s potboilers. If you enjoy more of a love story, you might have the opposite reaction!
