Book Review of Feivel's Flying Horses

Feivel's Flying Horses

In a time when we seem to be losing sight of the contributions of immigrants to American society, this sweet book has real meaning. It details the journey to America of Jewish woodcarver Feivel. Feivel works hard to earn enough money to send for his wife and children who are still back in Eastern Europe. He is able to obtain a job carving wooden horses for a carousel on Coney Island and slowly accumulates the resources needed to bring his family to America as well as creating beautiful flying horses. The end of the book sees Feivel and his family riding together on the carousel. A short but lilting tribute to the hard work of immigrants and how immigrants benefit American society.
