A beautifully written, and cleverly thought out reflection on the way we communicate, the obstacles that get in the way or expressing ourselves, and the way we can (if we're lucky) overcome them. The use of language is a real treat.

Ok, for me, this didn't achieve the "pure perfection" of McGregor's transcendent Reservoir 13. But it's pretty nearly perfect. McGregor could be holding a masterclass in how to achieve the perfect synthesis of theme, character, imagery and setting -- except that it's a fun, thrilling read, too! Dark humour, great sadness, but there's a ray of hope, too ...
