An excellent portrait of two great thinkers: T. H. Huxley and Charles Darwin. The book looks at these two men in the "social and intellectual context of their time."

Irvine "brings to life the era in which the bases of western thought were shaken violently by a new and audacious theoury, the theory of evolution."

I found the book illuminating and quite interesting throughout. Irvine is obviously an excellent writer.
