Although I finished the book, it is not terribly well written. I'm still not sure if she meant the main point to be about her pugs (Clara is one of them) or about the ordeal she and her husband went through to adopt a foreign child. The details of the latter is funny and painful at the same time. The parts about the former interesting and occasionally caused a chuckle. It did bother me a bit that the auther didn't seem to actually loved her pugs--it was almost as if the pugs defined her and her life--more of a status symbol and/or an albatross to carry in her pet bag. Her husband seemed to be more fond of them than she. I did change my attitude toward pugs though. I had thought them unattractive and without much of a personality. I certainly don't think that way now!
