Kelton writes westerns like as if he had been there.
This yarn is about Texas Ranger Andy Pickard; just a young married man trying to make enough by rangering to start his own spread.
He sets out to catch a missing murderer by following his wife.
On his way he runs into Indians, depraved horse thieves, a cavalry seargant on the run from the law but still willing to risk his life for a woman who was kind to him, and others.
The story is riveting, the characters and places totally believable.
So settle down pardner. Crank up the lantern and adjust your specs. Get ready for a Great Read !
