One of my all-time favorites of Elizabeth George's books. Lynley is out of town so Barbara Haver, his partner, is the main character here. George's book is complex and quite suspenseful. Out of one murder, a few other mysteries develop along the way. Despite the fact that Barbara is supposed to be on vacation, she travels to this seaside town and gets involved in helping to solve a murder. There's racial tension here also. Many Moslem Pakistanis live in the town and one of them is a wealthy businessman who is trying to become part of the town. It is one of the executives who he just hired who was murdered. This heighthens the racial tension, especially on the Moslems' side. There are several other themes in this book but they all blend together well. I guessed who the killer was pretty soon into the book but that took none of my pleasure away in reading this book. George has the ability to take a person into another world where it's easy to leave this one behind.
