The author of this book was born into an upper middle-class London family sometime around the turn of the 19th/20th Centuries and here recounts memories of his early childhood. He went on to become a famous and accomplished illustrator and has illustrated this book as well. For those who really appreciate retellings of childhood in substantially different times and places, this book is a treat.
