It's always fun to spend time with NY Assistant DA Alexandra Cooper and Detective Mike Chapman. Part of a series, there's enough recap in the book for new readers to feel like they know the characters but no so much that it's irritating for those who follow the series. I especially liked the detailed history of churches and synagogues in the NY area and the discussion of differing theological viewpoints across religions and denominations. The murders are gruesome (decapitation, lots of blood) and the other cases disturbing (pedophile priest/teacher, teenage girl falsely accusing a classmate of rape). You may figure out part of the ending along the way, but my guess is part of it will remain a surprise.
