I never really warmed up to Cathcart. I did like the premise, but the first-person POV as written makes him a very robotic personality. I'm surmising that was deliberate but I didn't care for it at all. It should be really interesting how Cathcart makes all his plans happen, but they are related in such boring minutiae! "I downloaded the files. I created a search routine to look for certain words. It took a long time. At last I found one." This isn't an exact quote but you get the idea. He tells us how he feels - "I desperately longed for her" - but I just couldn't believe in it. He tells us a lot how he isn't good socially but his amazing interview skills make people think otherwise, that got old. And apparently he's a computer expert too. I was interested enough to want the ending, so I finished it, but...eh. This is clearly set up to have a sequel, but I didn't see one listed.
