This is not a happy story. It's sad. It's about a family that falls apart. As the novel progresses the reader sees each family member struggle with her/his own place in the world at large and as a member of the family. If you know troubled families you may well understand what is happening here. The problems we face and the solutions we choose can have both good and bad consequences just like the Harding family in this novel. The ending of this novel leaves the reader wondering if the author will choose to write a sequel. I'd like to see one. It would be good to see how each member lives her/his life from that point. An interesting read indeed with complex characters.
