An interesting story that is more of a snapshot - slice of life - than an extended narrative. Part of my enjoyment had to do with its setting of Honolulu as the Americans are taking over. I gained some understanding of a complex situation. I also enjoyed the narrator, a somewhat lost soul finding some love and grounding during a time of turmoil.
