I read this book without knowing it was part of a series and enjoyed it and didn't feel like I was missing a huge story. Now that I know there are 2 earlier books, I'll go back and enjoy those as much as I did this.
Originally grabbed thinking it would be mindless, dumb braincandy, I was thrilled to discover a marvelously written, plotted and characterized novel. The love scenes were probably the most effective I've ever read.
