While this is a good book, it is a simplified history of the United States. In addition, it contains a number of historical mistakes and perpetuates some American myths.
Filled with numerous illustrations and photographs, it is a good start to understanding who we are as a people. Hopefully, students who read this book will continue to study our history and learn more about "US" and discover that not everything is as cut and dried as depicted in the book.
I congratulate the author for confronting the numerous events and issues that Americans should regret about our history, but which eventually we (well, most of us anyway) overcame to make us a stronger nation.
