We took this parenting 'class' as an 18 week study at our church with a small group. We took it the first time when we had a 6 month old baby, so much of it didn't really apply to us at the time. We took it again when our daughter was 4 and our newest addition was 1. It is the best thing we could ever have done for our children. It is not a crock, it is not hooey. It is one couple's perspective on how best to raise children biblically, in a world filled with sin. We are not 'weird' people. We watch television, we drink beer and wine, and our kids go to public school. We are normal, everyday people, who happen to love Jesus. Our children are extremely well-behaved, and we are constantly told by people (even strangers) how delightful they are to be around, how polite they are, how respectful they are. And I have to tell you, my little boy (who is now 6) gained an AMAZING heart for Jesus, and I think that our parenting choices had a heck of a lot to do with that. No, this book isn't for everyone. And yes, it may be controversial for some. But if you are a Christian, and you want to be the best parent that you know God wants you to be, then try it. God gave parents to children. Not the other way around. Again, I'm not a professional, but my kids are 8 and 6 and it still works for us today, and we are so very thankful that our pastor offered the class, and convinced us to invest those 18 weeks the first time, and we volunteered to take it the second time, knowing we needed a refresher.
