After the success of "Six Men" (1995), Cooke in 1999 put together this book of shorter profiles of 23 men and women whom he had met and known more than passingly in his career as an English reporter in the USA. Of particular interest are his profiles of American Presidents FDR (and an even more interesting one of Eleanor), DDE, and Ronald Reagan, as well as well-known British personalities of GB Shaw, Winston Churchill, and Sir Francis Chichester, the mariner who sailed around the world in his late 70s. Other profiles include Erma Bombeck, Duke Ellington, Bobby Jones, George Marshall, Dean Acheson, Frank Lloyd Wright, P.G. Wodehouse, Barry Goldwater, Gary Cooper, Robert Frost. 278 pp.
