From the back: "One hundred hungry ants marched in a row, going to a picnic -- but were they too slow?" Great book for beginning multiplication. It is a reading level 1 for ages 4-7. Whether the ants go single file (1 wide x 100 long), 2 to a row (2 x 50), 4 to a row (4 x 25), etc., your little one will recognize there are lots of ways to "see" 100.

One hundred ants are marching, single file, towards a picnic where they hope to enjoy a number of tasty treats. When the smallest ant uses math to deduce that they will reach the picnic quicker if they march in two lines he reorganizes the group. He reorganizes again when he rethinks he strategy and decides they will get there quicker if they march in rows of three, and so on. While the ant's math logic is correct, his constant stopping to reorganize the group slows things down so much that they miss the picnic altogether. Color illustrations accompany the rhyming text.
