George Rogers Clark is the older brother of Lewis and Clark fame, namely William Clark. George Rogers Clark was important during the Revolutionary War, where he kept the British busy in the Northwest Territory. Unfortunately, his later life was spoiled by the debts he incurred trying to keep his soldiers afloat and fighting. Although he was given thousands of acres for fighting nobly in the war, creditors got most of it to pay off his debts. His fighting days were over at the age of 30. He lived his last years (until death at 65) with his sister, Lucy.

This reminds us once again that patriots rarely made money in the service to their country.
