In this time of decision concerning the nomination of Clarence Thomas as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Stephen Carter, a professor of Law at Yale, offers his reflections on both the highly charged topic of affirmative action, the "bete noir" of the qualification conscious right wing, and the cult of political correctness, which ascribes a monolithic thought process to the class of contemporary black professionals.
