Chicago's Mayor is gunning for Ethan Sullivan, Master of Cadogan House. As the House Sentinel, Merit must protect him. She seeks refuge for Ethan and herself with the Breckenridges, a family of shifters who live outside of the city limits. But it isn't going to be a relaxing vacation. As the North American Central Pack and their leader Gabriel Keene, meet at the Breckenridge Estate for a celebration, they are attacked by Harpies. Merit and Ethan, along with Catcher and Mallory, must discover who called up the magical harpies which caused the death of several shifters.

This is the ninth book in the Chicagoland Vampire series. This book had the feel of a book that will set up a story arc for future books. Even though Merit and Ethan once again got to play detective, I thought the pacing for this story was slow. I kept waiting for something big to happen. I pretty much had to wait till the end of the story for the pace to ramp up. It was well worth reading, but not my favorite in the series. My rating: 4 Stars.
