Book Review of Dragonfly

Amazing visual imagery! This book has some of the best visual descriptions I've come across. The author just has a way with descriptions. The first paragraph grabbed me with the richness of language. While this is touted as a children's book, I think adults will enjoy it as well. It's a bit dark for a child's book so if a child is going to read it, I hope the child is good at reading and not easily scared. I don't think the average third grader will understand much of this book. The 11 year old heroine of the story descends into the vast underworld that exists beneath her home. There she meets all manner of creatures from vampires to witches and werewolves. Every sentence is gold. I know that sounds like hyperbole, but that's how I feel. The author's style appealed to me so much. It's not too flowery or over the top and he's not Ernest Hemingway with sparse prose either. He's the Goldilocks of prose..just right.
