Theresa Romain writes out of the ordinary stories, and in this one, the heroine, Charlotte, is a former courtesan, and the hero is blind(not a spoiler, we find this out at the beginning of the book). Benedict Frost is able to get around the world amazingly well, despite losing his sight. He's also hyper-aware and hears and senses things that sighted people miss. If I had not recently listened to a program on NPR about blind people who are able to sense objects around them using echo location, I would have said this was not believable. In fact, his character is based on a real person.
Their story was touching, and had some sad moments and it seemed hard to imagine how the HEA would happen. I liked the way they each rescued themselves from problems that at first seemed insurmountable.
